I am curious about the capability to edit student names. Students apparently have the ability to change their names (I have a student who is appearing as 'Fuzzy Bear' in my gradebook and on the discussions), but I can only edit ID #s in my roster, not the names. I am concerned about students using the ability to change their name and making it something inappropriate. Is there a way to edit student names under the teacher login, or is there a way to block students from changing their name?
Thanks
Hi Benjamin,Good question.
Hi Benjamin,
Good question. There are two issues at play here, student names and student nicknames.
It appears that your student has changed his or her nickname to 'Fuzzy Bear' instead of a regular nickname like 'Sam'. We allow students to control their names and nicknames in their account information because the accounts are shared between classes so we can't give any teacher direct control over a student's personal information.
However, you are not the first person to voice concern about nicknames showing up in classes, and we are planning to add the capablilty for teachers to "turn off" nicknames in their classes (gradebook and discussions). If you add the suggestion to our feedback.haikuls.com page then you'll get notifications when we start work on the feature and when it is completed (just make sure you create an account for yourself on the page).
