Our goal for our advisory council is quite simple: To ensure we’re listening to the educational community and building what is needed most by assembling an expert set of education and technology professionals to help us bring our ideas to reality.



Peter Mellen

Peter Mellen is a seasoned entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience leading new business initiatives in organizations ranging from startups to Fortune 500 corporations.  He most recently served as Director of Premium Education Services at AOL, where he was responsible for a portfolio of online services that generated over $3 million in revenue during its first year of operations.

Prior to AOL, Mr. Mellen served as Vice President of Business Development for Safari Books Online (http://www.safaribooksonline.com).  While at Safari, Mr. Mellen conceived and executed content distribution partnerships that generated over $10 million in sales.  Immediately after earning his MBA in 1998, Mr. Mellen co-founded Headlight, an online learning company that was one of the first in the industry to provide professional skills training online. Headlight raised more than $15 million of venture capital from investors that included Draper Fisher Jurvetson and the Silicon Valley Band of Angels.

Mr. Mellen earned his MBA (Honors) and a B.A. in Psychology from Georgetown University, where he served as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Governors. 



Anthony Showalter

Anthony Showalter is a digital media strategist living and working in New York City.  He is currently employed by Echoing Green, the leading seed funder for social entrepreneurship. Prior to joining Echoing Green, Anthony was a founder and managing partner of LightSky, an interactive agency specializing in serving the nonprofit and educational sectors.  Anthony holds a BA in psychology from Goshen College and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
